Reading Artifacts

One significant artifact that is important in being a crime scene investigator would be a fingerprint.

Critical Reading-
Preview- hard to see, black, many curvy lines
First Impression- very unique, tricky to distinguish from others
Key Ideas- DNA profiling, personal identifier, specific to each individual
Connection- DNA fingerprinting doesn’t require an actual fingerprint because they can use any cell from a person and get the fingerprint from that, almost impossible to get rid of fingerprints or anything linking to finger prints
Questions- How are fingerprints obtained? How accurate are fingerprints as evidence? What types of figure prints are there?
Summary- Fingerprints are one of the most important pieces of evidence.

Critical Response-
Key Question- How are fingerprints used?
Detail Analysis-What ways are fingerprints obtained? How are they helpful?
Interpretation- Fingerprints are used as means of identification. Fingerprint evidence is used to identify individuals in court trials all the time.
Synthesis- FBI contains over 200,00 prints per day which is both good and bad. It is challenging to store all the prints in the computer but with all the different prints it is more likely to catch criminals.
Final Synthesis- Since no two people have the same fingerprint, it makes them very reliable and useful in today’s court trials.
